Team-based Investigation in Physics
Group analysis of a physics problem. Teams should be 2 or 3 students.
Makes up 40 % of CA1.
- Each group is to investigate the motion of an object of choice.
- We would focus on motion of a body/bodies independent of a person (except when it is being launched/hit by a person).
- At least two different experiments should be planned to investigate different aspects of the motion.
- Examples of different types of motion can be found at:
Suggestions for Topics
- A conical pendulum
- A ball/box rolling/sliding down a slope
- A ball rolling off edge of a table
- A ball bouncing on the ground
- Motion of a swing
- Motion of a toy parachute after being released
- Motion of a tennis ball / table tennis ball (ping pong ball) after being hit by a racquet / bat
- Motion of a basket ball after being thrown
- A ball rolling through and projected from a tube
- Motion of a paper aeroplane

We are going to investigate how different variables affects the speed that the wooden bicks moves down the slope (friction).
Materials needed:
A slope
A wooden brick and a long towel
Spring dynamometer
Many wooden bricks
Timer
Use the comment section here to let Mr Shone know who is in your team and to come up with a project idea. Also come up with a team name (that should be the name of a famous physicist)!
