To enter 2.7 eg. Divide by 3 × 10^2 becomes ÷ 3 × 10^2 instead of ÷ (3 × 10^2). This is considered as one number by your calculator – i.e treated as if it had brackets around it.

Remember in maths notation:

1 / 2 × 10² is not the same as 1 / (2 × 10²)

eg. Divide by 3 × 10^2 becomes ÷ 3 × 10^2 instead of ÷ (3 × 10^2). Many also unaware of the standard form button at the bottom of the calculator [×10x] which would eliminate the need to insert brackets as the calculator recognises it as a single number.
